6. Patient Cost Sharing and Your Medical Bill
CounterPoint is committed to transparency in billing and to helping patients understand their financial responsibility for services. Cost sharing is the portion of healthcare costs you are responsible for paying under your health insurance plan. These amounts are determined by your insurance company and may include:
- Copayments (Copays): A fixed dollar amount you pay at the time of service.
- Deductible: The total amount you must pay for covered services each year before your insurance begins to pay.
- Coinsurance: A percentage of the cost of a covered service that you pay after your deductible has been met.
How This Applies to Your Care
- CounterPoint visits: Copayments are generally due at check-in for in-office outpatient visits. However, copayments for facility-based and telehealth visits will be billed to you or the responsible party after the insurance portion is collected. This pertains to all evaluation, treatment, and behavioral health integration (BHI) services.
- Behavioral health integration (BHI): CounterPoint is supportive of the BHI program. BHI is a type of care where we work with your primary or specialty medical provider to help manage mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, or other emotional or behavioral concerns. This team-based approach might include regular check-ins, care coordination, and follow-up to support both your mental and physical health in one connected plan. When applied, BHI fees occur once a month. They may be subject to your deductible and/or coinsurance, even if performed on the same day as a visit. You may have cost sharing responsibilities if your insurance does not cover the entire expense.
- Brain health coaching: Our brain health coaching services are entirely private pay as we do not bill insurance for this program. Fees are listed and accessible to you. For more information, contact the Resource Center at resourcecenter@counterpointhealthservices.com
What You Should Know
- We are required by federal law to bill your insurance plan for all covered services accurately and according to applicable coding and documentation guidelines.
- Your insurance plan — not our practice — determines the amount of your copayment, deductible, or coinsurance. The one exception is for private pay servicers such as brain health coaching.
- If you have questions about your coverage or your bill, we encourage you to contact your insurance plan. Our billing department can also help explain charges and payment options.
Your Rights and Protections Under the No Surprises Act
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
- If you do not have insurance or are not using insurance, you have the right to receive an estimate of the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
- This estimate will include related costs such as medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- You should receive your estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your scheduled medical service.
- You can also request a Good Faith Estimate at any time before scheduling.
- If you receive a bill that is $400 or more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

We offer telehealth appointments for certain conditions.
Medicare coverage for telehealth is subject to CMS rules, which may change.
